The Itinerary

Day01:ArriveColombo
Welcome, you will be met at the airport and transferred to the Hotel Sigiriya

l where you will have the rest of the day free.  Overnight stay at Hotel Sigiriya in the cultural triangle's heartland. 

Day02:Kandalama
Morning excursion to Dambulla. (The name Dambulla derives from Damba rock and Ulla fountain). This is one of the most impressive Buddhist Temples in the World, showing the evolution of the Sinahalese Buddhist art. Afternoon excursion to Anuradhapura - located in the northern central part of the island; Anuradhapura was the first capital and undoubtedly the grandest city of ancient Sri Lanka. Areas of interest include Sri Maha Bodhi (sacred Bo tree) under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, it is over 2,200 years old and is the oldest historically documented tree in the world.
Overnight stay at Hotel Sigiriya.

Day03:Polonnaruwa
Morning excursion to Polonnaruwa. King Parakramabah (1153-86) built Polonnaruwa erecting huge buildings, draining swamps and planting vast areas with crops. There is a possibility of an optional safari elephant ride. Remainder of the day at leisure.

Day04:Sigiriya
Morning excursion to Sigiriya rock fortress, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. About halfway up the rock is a sheltered gallery of frescoes painted on the sheer rock face. The 'Heavenly Maidens' are similar in style to the paintings of Ajantha in India. Afternoon free.

Day05:Kandy
Morning departure for Kandy, en route visiting a spice garden in Matale to see the different spices for which Sri Lanka is famous. Afternoon sightseeing tour of Kandy amongst the crazy Kandy drivers.  Kandy is the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, including a visit to the lake built by the last Sinhala king in 1798, the bazaar, the arts & crafts centre and gem museum. In the evening, visit the 'Temple of the Sacred Tooth' containing the tooth of Buddha followed by a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.
Overnight stay at Thilanka Hotel.

Day06:Kandy
Morning excursion to Pinawala elephant orphanage. The orphanage is home to about 60 elephants, found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. Afternoon visit to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens; the botanical gardens were first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and were later expanded by the British to 147 acres.
Overnight at Thilanka Hotel.

Day07:Kandy/Nuwara Eliya
Morning departure for Nuwara Eliya, en route visiting a tea factory.  Surrounded by hills and tea plantations, the town of Nuwara Eliya was a favourite retreat of the British during colonial times, the town is dotted with English country style houses earning it the name 'Little England'. Upon arrival in Nuwara Eliya, check in to the Grosvenor Hotel.  Afternoon free.

Day08:Nuwara Eliya To Ella
Spend the morning at leisure and then take an optional train journey to our next stop of Ella.  The scenery on route is magnificent with views of tea plantations and mountains.  You can take a local the train from Nona Oya (a few miles form Nuwara Eliya) to Ella where we will meet you and take you to a local hotel.

Day09: Ella
Day at leisure to take in the view and rest before continuing our journey tomorrow.

Day10:Ella to Dikwella
Morning departure for beach hotel en route calling at ‘Buddha in Rock’ Check in at Marissa paradise (Dikwella) where you will stay for the next few days.

Day 11 - 12: At Marissa paradise Hotel (Dikwella)

Day 13: Dikwella to Negombo
Travel to Negombo calling at a Turtle Farm en route.
Overnight at a hotel in Negombo we will arrange for you but the cost and meals are not included in the price

Day 14: Negombo/Colombo Airport-Colombo

Transfer to the airport in time for your flight home.
